About Proxy

Proxy is a startup that focuses on developing a state-of-the-art technology (app) to operate internet-enabled devices for every kind of login processes. Rather than going through long login processes and the downloading bunch of apps for separate devices, it is better to centralize the login processes for all the smart home appliances, which derives a better user experience. Finally, it kills the card key. Denis Mars and Simon Ratner are the co-founders of Proxy.

How Proxy kills the use of card key?

With Proxy, a user’s smartphone emits a Bluetooth signal that is sensed by a sensor connected to an IoT device like an electronically locking door.  As the user approaches the IoT device, sensors in it starts detecting their presence and see if they have been granted access to the device by requesting an ID from Proxy. Its backend system verifies their ID and once the sensor confirms that the user is allowed, the door opens or fire up the user’s preferred sound and screen settings. The verification process takes up just a few seconds and then, the door opens instantly. As of now, Proxy’s technology only works for the door locking systems used at offices, which normally require card keys. The startup is yet to expand its technology with other consumer electronics or building systems.

About the funds

Recently, Proxy has raised $1.6 Million in seed funding to help people to use the IoT devices. The funds will be raised in marketing Proxy as well as in developing API that will make the company’s app work well with others. Proxy is part of the current batch of startups at the Y Combinator accelerator and was originally incorporated as Martians Inc. Its backers so far include Y Combinator and Blackbird Ventures.
