India’s Car Tracking Startup Gets Funded By Whatsapp Co-Founder

Trak N Tell Successfully Completes Its Series A Round of Funding
Trak N Tell, a Gurgaon-based company, has just secured funding from Whatsapp Co-founder, Brian Acton. In a Series A round, the company is rumoured to have raised close to $3.5 million from Whatsapp co-founder and two more investors.
How the Idea Came About
Company’s CEO, Pranshu Gupta, started it in 2007, after he realized that his car was being misused by the driver to run personal errands. Ignited by a personal need for the safety of his car, he came up with Trak N Tell.
Trak N Tell integrates telematics system with the vehicle’s intelligence data to- provide GPS details; track vehicle in a situation of theft, and provide warnings about imminent engine failures. Apart from this, the company also offers Intelli7, it’s premium product, using which one can track and immobilize their vehicle in an event of a theft.
Channelizing the Funds
The company plans to use the funds to expand its presence in the cities of Bangalore and Mumbai by year end. They would also be scaling up their R&D operations for the same.
There are some competing systems in the market. Mahindra Reva boasts of a first-of-its-kind 3G/4G mobile-based interface to control some features. Also, there are CarIQ and Raksha SafeDrive that are in direct competition with Trak N Tell. But given its past experience in the market and the products at offer, Trak N Tell is a solid opponent to compete with. Also, its earning in 2014-15 amounted to a staggering Rs 4,133 crore.
