The Lincoln Professionals Speak

Mariah Nimmich indeed has an interesting story to narrate. A Lincoln startup hired her. She was then just a 23-year-old woman from Seattle who struggled to pay her loans and bills. Today, she is the public relations and marketing manager of her company Bulu Box, a startup that delivers boxes to users that contain health, nutrition and weight loss products. Though she is here at this level now, her initial days were not easy to go with. According to her, the startups should provide some initial backup for freshers who come out of college with the debts and loans to repay. But at the same time, she is grateful for the opportunities she has got in this short span of time.  “It’s a community that gives back to you what you give to it,” she said. Nimmich is one of the upcoming set of young minds who come to Lincoln with the aim of making their careers in the startups lie Powderhook. Powderhoo is an app that helps users to find places to hunt or fish, and Hudi a company that makes video editing software.

Lincoln companies always have many success stories like Mariah’s to narrate. These set of firms raised the investment over 80 million in the first half of last year. In 2014, all these startups had raised around 4.6 million as investments. This statistics clearly show the impact Lincoln companies are making now. When asked about how to make Lincoln companies better, people came up with the following views:

Paul Jarett – He is the co-founder of Bulu Box along with his wife, Stephanie. He finds the people very approachable and the advantage of Lincoln’s closeness to the university. He spoke about the need for more professional talent that could add to the tech staff, and also talked about the less support from the government when it comes to the tax breaks. However, he is deeply impressed by the success stories so far. “It’s shocking how it has grown over the last four years, with the lack of funding, with the lack of talent, with the lack of government tax breaks,” he said. “It’s really surprising to me that it’s done so well.”
