Biopic On 5 Astounding Women Inventors Who Changed The World

It’s good to be rebel sometimes !

“Behind every successful man there is a woman and behind every successful woman is her strong will and strength”.  It seems unfair, but many women inventors go unnoticed and get lost in the pages of history without getting their due fame.

What makes a woman strong is her endurance through life’s circumstances, which enables her to make decisions that ultimately make her the strong woman we admire. Our history is filled with a number of women who have made lives easier for generations to come. They were determined, strong-willed women who fought all the odds of life to invent something path-breaking.

Startup-Buzz presents stories of some of the strongest and most inspiring women ever to feature on the silver screen

JOY :

Jennifer Lawrence’s silver screen portrayal of inventor Joy Mangano brings the character alive and is simply astounding. Joy Mangano has over 100 patents to her name, but the invention that put her on the map is the ‘Miracle Mop’. Cleaning up after three kids is not often inspiring work, but Mangano took her frustration with one aspect of it, mopping, and spent a couple of years developing a product that would help take the sting out of the thankless task.

She called it the Miracle Mop, as a result of which, she became one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world. Mangano’s rags to riches life story on the silver screen has been created by David O. Russell. The film has already earned Golden Globe nods for best picture, comedy, and best actress.

Coco Before Chanel :

Directed by Anne Fontaine, this is a handsomely dressed and tastefully furnished drama that rolls out pretty conservatively, but is notable for two excellent performances. We really appreciate the meaning of clothes when we talk about women’s empowerment. Gabrielle Chanel’s story tells us how a humble girl, from the early twentieth century France, achieved her independence using her skills as a designer and trendsetter.

The film is a visual ode to the Chanel universe, her taste for elegance and simplicity, which led her to banish the corsets, hats and recharged extravagant clothes, revolutionizing women’s wardrobes. The film invites us to think about the conventionalisms and the courage to break with the established, in the case of Coco Chanel, both in fashion and in social and economic status. An innovative and enterprising woman, like all those that inspire us.If you like clothes and stories about successful women entrepreneurs as much as we do, you will love this film.

The Genius of Marie Curie: The Woman Who Lit Up the World :

Even after 80 years of her death, Marie Curie remains by far the best-known female scientist. Curie became a rare thing in her life time- a celebrity scientist. She was center of attraction to news cameras and various tabloid gossips. They were captivated because she was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize and remains the only person to have won two Nobel Prize in two different sciences. Curie had to overcome obstacles, difficulties and painstaking research and penalty that were ultimately paid off when she discovered about radium. It became one of the of scientific heroism iconic stories of all time.

The BBC produced a television documentary, The Genius of Marie Curie: The Woman Who Lit Up the World, in 2013. This multi-layered film tells us about the real Marie Curie, an unusual woman who fell in love three times, had to survive the pain of loss, and the public humiliation of a doomed love affair. It is an enthralling portrait of a tenacious mother and scientist, who unlocked the door on a whole new realm of physics, known as radioactivity.

The documentary follows her struggle for recognition in the male-dominated science community in early 20th century France.  There is also a Polish drama film directed by Marie Noelle in 2016.

Exposure: Rosalind Franklin :

Nicole Kidman is to Play Rosalind Franklin in film adaptation of Rosalind Franklin Biopic. This movie gives Franklin the lack of mainstream attention towards this brilliant woman. Director NikiCaro is about to direct a Franklin biopic which is titled as ‘Exposure’ Hayley Schore and Roshan Sethi are the script writers, and will focus on her role in the discovery of DNA, which is credited to Watson and Crick.

The discovery of the DNA double helix is often attributed to James Watson and Francis Crick, who won the Nobel Prize for physiology in 1962; it was not actually theirs to claim. A British biophysicist, Rosalind Franklin was the first person to discover and capture a photographic image when she was observing molecules with the help of X-ray diffraction. But without her permission or consent, Watson and Crick deceitful male colleagues showed the photograph to competitors, was credited as their own work.

Grace Hopper :

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates had over 12 films made about them, but their legacies are built on Grace’s. Who knows, without Grace Hopper, they might have been door-to-door calculator salesmen! Even with that fact, there isn’t a single movie or documentary about Grace and her legacy so far.Now there is an upcoming movie which is directed by Melissa Pierce.

The story would revolve around Grace Murray Hopper and her personal and professional story of US Navy Admiral and computer pioneer. Grace was rebellious as she was great influence in male-dominated military and business organizations when most of the women were trained for housework and childbearing. The greatest technical achievement for Hopper was to develop tools that would assist humans to communicate with computer other than binary language. This led to foundation of various programming and software design and history of user-friendly personal computers.

Even they are renowned there are much biopic or documentaries about them. What still lacks for crediting women for their invention and work? Do share your thoughts in comment section below:
