What is Merlin Photo Id app?
Ever watched a bird in sky and brainstormed its name? Well we all have experienced it but no more worries, Merlin bird identification app will be our savior next time. It is more like a Shazam for bird lovers and ornithologists. All you have to do is to click a close up picture and the app will identify it for you. The photo Id features was part of Merlin ecosystem for more than a year but Cornell just went ahead by enabling it into mobile app.
Although, it would be pretty understandable if one couldn’t get a decent picture with your smart phone but if you do, the developers state that the Merlin app is 90 percent accurate. If you still have doubts, answers few questions such as what did its call sound like, did it have a bar on its throat, etc. The best part of app is you don’t have to be online for the app to work and identify.

How was the app developed?
The app is final result of seven years of Cornell student’s hard work and advance technology produced by scientists in computer vision and machine learning. Moreover Cornell also collaborated with Visipedia and Pietro Perona, co-founder of the company to create the app. Serge Belongie, a professor and other co-founder of the thinks that all they wanted to develop an open platform so anyone or any community can utilize to classify visually for butterflies, frogs, plants or whatever they need.
The app is available for both Android and iOS users but make sure you have lot of space before downloading it.
