Facebook Hires Developers To Outshine Snapchat’s Filters

Reinvent Your Profile Pictures!

What else Facebook?

Everyday Facebook at least sees around 30 million profile pic updates but it doesn’t have enough tools and resources to make them appealing. So today the company released its Profile Expression Kit to worldwide developers. This kits enables one to add media like Vine videos, Boomerang GIFs, Beauty + enhanced selfies, MSQRD face filters, Lollicam stickers and Flixel cinemagraphs onto the profile pics.

What will the Software Development Kit (SDK) do?

This application was launched by Facebook in April itself with its other six partners at F8 conference. Now any app can apply this kit and make their profile pic or video appear more interesting. If one does so- change or generate profile pics or videos using this kit- they get a shout-out and download link in their update profile pic news feed post.

What does Facebook has to say about it?

Aigerim Shorman, Facebook’s product manager believes profile pictures are second most viewed surface after Facebook’s news feed and developing on kit like this might help them getting huge coverage. Flixels Chief Marketing Officer, Robert Lendvai, thinks that it was a wise decision to join this kit launch as it is getting Flixel’s cinemagraphs much needed exposure and has been instrumental in getting funding from 500 Startups.

Although Snapchat has remarkable filters, lenses but Facebook is also implying new ways on its platforms. This kit will also help teenagers to experiment with their creative side.
