Major Step Taken By Gmail to Beat Email Spoofing

A sigh of relief !

Security is not an Issue Anymore

Google has found a new way to combat phishing and other intimidation caused by spoofed Gmail accounts and malevolent links. Soon, Google will enable new security warnings for Gmail Android and web users that will exhibit a question mark in place of sender’s profile picture or corporate logo, if the message can’t be legitimated. Also, the checks are done against the Domain Keys Identified Mail (DKIM) standard and Sender Policy Framework (SPF) records, which let the sender sign authenticated email digitally.

More about the Safety Measures by Google

Moreover, the emails with phishing sites and malware links will not load in the browser immediately. Gmail will also send a warning alert for such malicious links first, before permitting the user to navigate the link. According to the press release, these warnings by Google are an extension of its latest Safe Browsing protection feature that was updated in March. In addition to this, DMARC permits domain owners to notify Gmail on how to handle the unauthenticated email messages from that domain. On the other hand, first domain owners have to configure DKIM and SPF on all outbound email to put this measure in place.
