During the holiday season, Dockyards in tourist places, like Patras, become very busy due to lots of boats and hence, hectic for captains to find space for their boat. Keeping this major issue in consideration, Sammy, a Greek startup was launched and sponsored by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Program. This application allows skippers reserve the spot for their boat at the harbor.
How Sammy Works?
Sammy’s app uses the Spanish IoT firm Libelium sensor platform. The app utilizes to observe measure sea water levels, monitor weather conditions and mooring boats. To monitor the presence of vessel presence in boats and births, an ultrasound sensor probe is utilized. Moreover, it can also monitor vessel presence in berths. The IoT sensors let Sammy get check the availability of berths in the port. Skippers can also fill in the size of the boat to make sure it will fit. The app also gives information on the facilities available near the port, like electric service, restaurants, petrol station, fresh water and port police. Pilots can easily pay for the booking on the mobile app that is available on both iOS and Android.
Since, the pilot program is launched; Sammy has added other five ports including St Raphael Marina, closer to Israel and Syria than Greece, Kalamata in the far South of Greece and Gouvia in Corfu.
