About Modified
The Seattle-based startup, Modifi has come up with an excellent way to reuse our old smartphones by converting them into security device and baby monitors. Modifi transforms used phones into low-cost smart sensor systems for various activities like security, fleet management and home monitoring on surfaces like doors, dashboards, walls and windows.
Idea behind this product
Jim Poss, CEO of Modifi, Inc.; founder of BigBelly Solar- got struck with this idea when he dropped his phone in the bathroom while giving the bath to his son. He was looking for the low-cost replacement for his waterlogged iPhone. Then, he came with an idea to revamp old phones into sensors, cheap security system, and vehicle telematics system.
Best Out of Waste
More than billions of smartphones are produced every year and most of them are unused today. Smartphones that have everything from GPS to useful sensors, which can be easily converted. Modifi helps you to recreate smartphone to get remote intelligence of all things you care about.
How the device works?
Modifi help to sense light, sound, movement, magnetic fields and power outages. If any movement is identified in a store, the device can automatically start recording and alert the shop owner via a text message. Currently, Modifi is working with three organizations and manages 8.1m networked devices. Soon, the startup is expected to cross 110 Million networked devices in the US.
