Who doesn’t know Farhan Akhtar? Recently, the celebrity-backed film discovery app, Flickbay raises $890,000 (around 6 crore) in seed funding from Paul Roy, Chairman of Dubai-based Riva Digital. The app allows users to discover movies, rate them and create personalized watch lists for Bollywood films, songs and trailers.

Run by Picdot Pte. Ltd., Flickbay is incubated under the movie production house Excel Entertainment, which is co-founded by Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Moreover, the duo are stakeholders in the startup. Flickbay is co-founded by Trishant Sidhwani, Ex-employee of Excel and Vishal Ramchandani, Marketing Head of the company, two weeks ago. Within such a short time, the app has successfully managed to reach 70,000 downloads.
Flickbay provides news, trailers, songs, reviews, ratings, box office collections and information about movies playing in theatres and on TV. Aiming at using the data generated from the app, it helps the film makers to take better, data-driven decisions. On-demand movie platform Muvizz.com gives directs competition to Flickbay.
