New York Based Computational Genomics Startup; Phosphorus Has Raised $10 Million

Technology strikes again!
How much did the startup raise?
New York-based startup; Phosphorus has raised $10M in a series funding led by First Mark Capital. Phosphorus is a computation genomics – a study of decoding biology from genome sequences using computational analysis, including both DNA and RNA.
About Phosphorus
Phosphorus is an extension of the previous genomics company; Recombine which was established in 2016 by Alexander Bisignano and Santiago Munne. Recombine was later sold to CooperSurgical for $85M in May. It offered a medical test to speculate potential genetic disorders or trait mutation. Recombine sold the test to CooperSurgical but kept the software platform and data map. Bisignano is now planning to use the data map for phosphorus.
What does Phosphorus do?
Phosphorus tests couples for any sign of future infertility. These tests not only check fertility but also help in taking preventive measures against potential infertility or simply let them know that they’re safe for trying. As this New York-based startup has access to troves of data from both Phosphorus tests and the Recombine data, the customers are asked to opt for anonymously sharing their genomic data, as Phosphorus can detect things that could be missed in another test.
How will the company help in the Medical sector?
The challenge most of the physicians and clinical researchers face is that they don’t have access to big enough sets of data to confirm their researches, or they don’t have the resources to determine large amounts of data they save. The Phosphorus FertilityMap allows physicians and researchers to tap into the Phosphorus product to conduct their own research.
How will the company use these funds?
The company would use the proceeds of these finances to hire new computer scientists, engineers, and geneticists, as well as to support the development of new clinical tests and software.
