UberPool comes to Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai

Go Uber!
UberPool carpooling service launched by Uber is currently operating in Delhi and Bengaluru since 6 months. Recently, the US-based cab-aggregator has expressed its plan to start the services in three other cities in India- Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai by June 5.
The company claims an approximate saving of 300,000 liters of fuel and about 798 metric tonnes CO2 emissions reduction achieved through users using UberPool. UberPool is an affordable carpooling service that is said to be available at 50 percent of the uberGO’s rate. Its competitor Ola offers similar service to its passengers as Ola Share at 60 percent of the standard rate.
“UberPool enables people going the same way at the same time to share their journey – bringing carpooling at the tap of a button. More people in fewer cars means cheaper rides for passengers and less congestion over time. Apart from reducing congestion and pollution in our cities over time, UberPool also means results in riders having to pay less and drivers spending less idle time between rides. It is a simple yet powerful example of how we can use technology to transform our cities,” as said by Uber India President Amit Jain told PTI.
Across the world, Uber is serving over 1 lakh people through UberPOOL every week in over 11 cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai. The renowned cab service has already saved approximately 16,000 tonnes of CO2, 140 million km of travel and millions of liters of petrol.
