A startup helps you to reduce food wastage by tracking leftover

Reduce food wastage by Winnow System

Be it be Restaurants, bars, pubs, hotels or any other food place has some leftover at the end of the day. It directly goes to the trash can, a complete wastage with no value for the business. But a startup has a unique view on this. It has built a technology that can track food wastage and deliver valuable insight to reduce it. According to fao.org more than 1 billion tonnes of food is wastage globally. This contributes 3.3 billion tonnes of CO2 release in the atmosphere. Food wastage is not just hampering the food industry, but it also has an unconstructive impact on nature.

London based Startup Winnow, built a technology that can help track and reduce food wastage tremendously. Through Winnow solution, staff can fill up the type of food they are throwing up in the garbage. At the later stage, it generates reports. This report brings valuable insight for the business owners to find the amount of money lost. It can also help staff to reduce the usage of that particular commodity that is widely un-eaten or un-used.

Winnow solution is easy to implement; A touch screen based platform is added inside the kitchen accessible to cooks and staff as introduced in above video. It is directly connected to the waste bins. Anyone who throws food can log the details in the system. It accepts a wide range of data like food type, leftovers, or a product. At the end it helps to review the information on wastage and taking necessary steps to reduce it. Founded in 2013, Winnow has raised $3.4 Million in overall 3 rounds of funding.

Takeaways:

  • Winnow solutions can help you to track food wastage.
  • Staff can feed details of waste food. It generates reports that inform the maximum amount of food type wasted. It helps in reducing the wastage.
