About CRISPR
Who doesn’t know Sean Parker? He is the Billionaire tech entrepreneur, who is keen in pouring money in the high-end technology that is meant to treat the most dreadful disease, cancer. The new technology, CRISPR is said to save lives and kill cancer of three types- myeloma, melanoma and sarcoma. It is reviewed by a federal advisory panel in Washington D.C.
It is a kind of gene-editing technology that lets scientists to precisely locate and cut out bits of DNA from live cells in bacteria, animals, and even humans. With this technology, humans can use its own immune system to fight cancer. CRISPR is now ready for its first human clinical trial. It will include 15 patients from Penn, the University of California, San Francisco, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center, all of which are part of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.
The Biggest Funding to Treat Cancer
In April this year, Parker sponsored $250 million to the new Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy that aims at developing breakthrough immune therapies. Parker’s donation is the single largest contribution ever made to the field of immunotherapy and will help fund this new study.
