About Homebase

Homebase is a startup providing schedule and time-tracking tools, primarily for local businesses. This San-Francisco based company has raised $6M in series A funding. Khosla Ventures led the seed funding. The contribution also came from Baseline Ventures and Cowboy Ventures. Keith Rabois of Khosla Ventures joined the board of Homebase. The company plans to use the funding for the development in sales and marketing department and also for the solutions of potential problems that small businesses might face. Seventy percent of the company’s clients are restaurants, hotel, bars and fine-dining establishments, and twenty-five percent are retailers. Homebase employs about 22 full-time workers (every employee at Homebase has previously held a retail or restaurant job). Headquartered in San Francisco with John Waldmann as the CEO and founder, Homebase also has an outpost in Houston, Texas.

How does it work?

The portal helps to schedule employees’ shifts and breaks. It automatically reminds employees about their upcoming shift with a text alert. Homebase also tracks whether employees are taking the breaks they are entitled to or whether they have logged in overtime hours. The company’s cloud-based app is built with businesses’ unique needs in mind. Homebase helps business owners to avoid unnecessary labor costs with a consciousness of labor laws, But more importantly, it will save small business owners, on average, five hours a week of administrative tasks, believes Waldmann.

Currently, Homebase claims to have recorded 20 million shifts worked across 50,000 small businesses and has users all over the USA.
