Oracle’s failure is others victory

Beware of Oracle!
All it begins when Oracle found a few piece of Java codes in Android. Not happy with it, Oracle sued Google for copyright and patent infringement. From 2010 till now, the case has taken various phases and today Oracle failed to get decision in its favor. If the company wins, it can claim around $9 billion from Google against the damages. US District Court denied Oracles allegation on the basis of fair-Use. It is not over yet, Oracle will plan to go ahead in future to produce case in higher court. We tried to shed some light, on what can happen if Oracle wins the case.
Java is created by Sun Microsystems, and Oracle acquired the company in 2010. Now it belongs to Oracle. Google is working on Android and using Java functions to keep thing simple for apps and developers. If Oracle wins the case, it will become the sole owner of Java and any existing app or platform using Java can face copyright infringement. Oracle’s failure is a big deal today. Google is not penalized to pay Oracle, but in future if Oracle has some points to win the law suit, this can be a bad news for many.
Why because, Java is used by many app developers and web based platforms. Lots of startups bring technology that involves implementation of Java. It can also put them under the risk of facing legal penalties. Talking about the functionality, under the term “fair-use” it is still allowed to use certain API or relevant functionality, without taking permission from the owner. According to Oracle if any software or app is compatible with Java comes under the breach. Google’s victory in this case is a huge relief.
Takeaways:
- Oracle lost against Google in lawsuit. It sued Google for using Java codes in Android.
- Under the term “Fair-Use” Court did not find that Google has gone against law.
