Founded by Ex Co-founder of Housing.com, Abhimanyu Dhamija and IIT graduate, Saurabh Goel in August 2015, Amber Wellness is an online beauty startup that has recently shut down in Indian cities of Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. The reason behind its failure is the low profit margins; though the ticket size was Rs. 1,300 on average. Amber Wellness had raised seed funding of about $1 million from an angel investor, whose name still remains undisclosed.

A lot of startups have been shut down recently. Few days ago, an online grocery startup, PepperTap also had to shut down due to lack of demand and poor unit economics. A beauty startup, Stylish has also rolled back. The reason of failure of budding beauty startups in India is the unorganized beauty market scenario, high capital investment and operationally challenging.

Amber had hired a professional team of five in-house stylists and 20 freelancers. For events, they had 275 freelance stylists, specializing in bridal make-up. With all this, March and April were seen as the most lucrative months till date for Amber. In addition, they had launched an app in association with few baby care brands for pregnant women and housewives.

The co-founder looks forward to soon come out with a new concept and launch it in the next couple of months.
