Nokia joins hand with Gainspeed

Nokia announced its plan to acquire Gainspeed. By joining hands with Gainspeed, Nokia has given itself a boost to Nokia Networks. With Gainspeed’s Virtual CCAP, Nokia can increase the capacity of their existing HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) infrastructure. This technology will help Nokia to deploy new services rapidly, while simultaneously reducing space and power requirements. As it is an all-IP architecture, it will be easy for the customer to migrate their network.

What is Gainspeed’s swag ?

Gainspeed is a US-based startup which redefines the way cable networks are built. It is an all-IP architecture which delivers unmatched price and performance while enabling the move to a software-driven architecture. Gainspeed is a cable company which allows cable operators to meet their high capacity requirements.

There has been a drastic rise in traffic to carry analog broadcast video. IP Video now accounts for over 62% of all Internet traffic – 67% of downstream traffic – and its growing fast. In the US, cable HFC networks carry 83% of all Internet connections greater than 6 Mbps, and reach over 93% of all homes, their official quoted.

Nokia’s growth after Microsoft acquisition

After Microsoft had taken over the Nokia mobile department, Nokia shifted their focus towards two core division.
– Nokia Networks (a broadband network infrastructure business)
– Nokia Technologies (VR, Digital Health Startup, and Ozo camera)
