Mumm – An opportunity for Refugees to earn

While several food delivering startups are trying to set up themselves in the market, Mumm, an Egyptian startup stands out from them. What makes it different is their home cooked menu, prepared by refugees

Startup scene is Egypt is evolving at the full swing with 50% of its population having age below 30. Startups, based on mobile and web are booming owing to its tech savvy citizens.

In scenario like this, Mumm, an Egyptian food delivery service has teamed up with Fard, a refugee nonprofit to involve Syrian, Iraqi and Sudanese women into the food industry. Mumm is therefore taking a high road to development while benefiting the refugees as well.

Mumm and Fard together organized a free cooking course for women willing to use a platform to sell homemade food without getting out of their houses.  Mumm lets cooks to prepare food in their homes and get it picked by the executives, to be delivered to the customers.

This has in a way working towards empowering the women and refugees. For some it is just an opportunity to learn Art of Cooking while for others it has become a way of living. This involvement of refugees in food industry is a huge step towards making their life less distressed.

Waleed Abd El Rahman, the Founder of Mumm, came up with this idea as he thinks that every private company has a moral responsibility towards society. It is not every day that positive initiatives like Mumm are discovered.  For whole story check out the video below:
