Meru Accuses Uber of Unlawful Practices

After Ola, Now Meru Questions Uber’s Practices
Last week, Uber made waves because of a blog that was published by Bhavik Rathod, Uber’s General Manager, South and West region. In this, he addressed the issue of some competitors calling Uber a foreign company. This resulted in Ola lashing out at it and calling the blog post just a cover-up for its repeated law-breaking and an excuse for fanning nationalist sentiments.
So why has now Meru Accused Uber?
Meru has accused the US-startup and global player, Uber, of breaking Indian laws again and again. It has also accused it of putting pressure on the regulatory bodies to modify laws in their favour.
Meru has pointed towards Uber using its billion-dollar money power to offer unjustified lower pricing to customers and huge bonuses to its drivers. Uber is also being blamed for plying All India Tourist Taxi Permit (AITP) vehicles within the city limits, which is illegal. Meru has added that this is being done just to avoid the local taxi regulation, which is unfair for the competitors. With its unjust pricing strategy and low fare, Uber generates large customer base. When the regulatory authorities take action against them, Uber creates social media campaigns by misusing their customer base. This puts pressure on the regulatory bodies, and in turn they are left with no other choice than to modify the law in their favour.
Last week, Ola called it a multinational with serial violations of law.
