In Conversation With Alexandru Roznovat, Founder Of PixTeller

A Romanian startup, PixTeller which was founded on July 25, 2013 is now creating a huge buzz. The web based photo design and editing application allows anyone to create social media covers, images, banners and graphics for print.
Recently Startup-buzz had a talk with, Alexandru Roznovat, Founder Of PixTeller about their journey of success. Read on.
Q. How did the idea of PixTeller come about? When did it struck you?
I think that the future of all software programs is the Cloud; therefore, PixTeller makes it possible for anyone to design directly from the browser – no software installation.
Before PixTeller, I launched one of the first web templates store in the world: GecoTemplates (2006). Some of my other ambitious projects were Niuzer.com and Sunlize.com. Although not successful in all their details, these opened new pathways for my future ideas.
Being a startup entrepreneur, I am always searching for new and experimenting with innovative methods to engage with the users and customers of my product. Users’ impressions and analysis about our service deliver on a real time basis are very crucial and helps to improve my strategy and constantly grow.
Therefore, the idea behind PixTeller is quite plain: We want to improve and simplify the design process from start to end. This will enable that our service be used by any marketer from the digital industry, any blogger or website owner, as well as anyone who needs designs for personal or commercial use.
Q. Tell us about your personal inspiration behind the idea.
After launching the first version of PixTeller in September 2014, I was amazed by the large number of people around the globe, who were spending time on my app, creating thousands of quote pictures every day.
As a startup entrepreneur, I am always searching for new and innovative methods to engage with the users and customers of my product. This is how the new PixTeller was born.
Therefore, my new PixTeller’s idea is quite simple: to improve and simplify the design process from start to end, so that our service can be used by any marketer from the digital industry, blogger or website owner, and anyone who needs designs for personal or commercial use.
Q. Please let us know about disclosed/ undisclosed funding rounds if any?
As PixTeller is a Romanian Startup the process of raising money by attracting investors is really hard and would have cost us a lot of precious time. As a small team, we focused on developing to launch the new version.
We are looking for funding opportunities and we are open to any proposals.
Q. Can you elaborate more about PixTeller? (things we have missed highlighting in our news & you want the readers to know about it)
People don’t have to hire professional designers or spend a lot of money and time with expensive software. The perfect blend between our Editor, Platform and Templates (Heart, Skeleton, Muscles) resolves the non-technical or lack of design skills problems.
For example, 99% of our current users start their designs using templates.
Q. Tell us about your team and how did they cooperate during the ups and lows of PixTeller?
Even though we are a small team: 3 full-time developers plus some friends that help a lot, we are all talented and passionate about our work.Florin, developer who believed in PixTeller’s great potential and decided to join our team at the beginning of 2015. He was eager to learn and get involved in PHP projects, starting from scratch and having great results. The brain behind the PixTeller’s interfaceis possible because ofFlorin’s remarkable PHP and JavaScript clean codes.
Anton joined our team at the beginning of 2016; he stood up and found the best solutions for our Editor, turning our ideas into reality. He started developing web applications in 2012 moreover he has his own mobile app on Iconic-Angular. He also made a plugin for backbone. Needless to say, JavaScript is almost native language to him.
Although we are a small team, we are all talented and passionate about our work.
Q. What challenges have you faced in the budding stage? How have you dealt with it?
You always hear the same story about successful startup entrepreneurs and their million dollar ideas. But the PixTeller story (‘PixsTory’, as I like to call it) is much more than that. I had no external funding, I had to face many financial problems, disbelief (at least in Romania people are reluctant regarding startups) and this slowed me down when trying to find the right people to join my small team.. What can I say? Until you succeed, few are the people who believe, encourage or support you.
Q. What do you think about PixTeller’s competitive companies? Will PixTeller beat them?
Giant competitors that dominate the design market, leaving no room for small businesses, like: Adobe ,Autodesk (Pixlr), Canva, Fotor, BeFunky, PicMonkey, Lucidpress. The main differences between PixTeller and our competitors are the technology and different approach (unique functions). For example, we can easily integrate PixTeller via an API in wordpress, magento etc. Our Editor is really fast and we can bring a lot of improvements to its performance quickly.
Also, we are looking into developing B2B and Education plans.
Q. What are your future plans? (both, short and long term)
Our Future plan includes -Wordpress / Magento / etc. APIs with a monthly cost. We are also focusing one B2B – business integration ( that would help Enterprise account for marketing/design agencies etc.) Moreover we are looking for Marketplace – Partnership for high-end print delivery products all over the world (i.e. t-shirts, paintings, iPhone cases delivery etc.)
