Facebook is testing its internet service Express Wi-Fi in India for commercial rollout, as per the reports. Express Wi-Fi allows users to purchase affordable and reliable data from local internet service providers for smooth and easy access to the web. A pilot study has already been conducted by offering internet hotspots in 125 rural locations in India. The tests were being carried out with multiple local ISP partners.
Providing Affordable Data Connection
When it comes to the internet, Facebook has a range of projects related to it. Part of one of the most ambitious projects, Internet.org, Express Wi-Fi aims to bring internet connection to the offline parts of the world. Hence, data packets that are as low as Rs. 10 are being implemented across the Indian villages. Its local internet service provider partners provide the data packs. In this way, Facebook is filling the technology gap in the world.
As of now, Facebook’s goal is to boost the internet connectivity in India for seeking expansion and acquiring the next one billion users. Nevertheless, its numbers have already reached 1.7 billion per month.
