About BookMyShow

Founded in 2007 by Ashish Hemrajani, BookMyShow is India’s largest online entertainment ticketing platform that lets users to book tickets for movies, plays, sports and live events. BMS has a near monopoly in its space. Some of its competitors include Explara, Kyazoonga, MeraEvents and Paytm. The platform uniquely taps the entertainment industry of India.

About the Funding

Recently, Bigtree Entertainment, owner of BookMyShow raises around Rs. 550 crore in its fourth and largest single funding round, which was led by US-based Venture Capital firm Stripes Group. Existing investors like Network 18 Media, Accel Partners and SAIF Partners participated in the round. After this round of funding, Bigtree Entertainment is now valued more than 3,000 crore. In 2014, Bigtree had raised Rs. 150 crore in its previous funding round.

Using the Funds

The new funds will be used to upgrade the user experience by strengthening the existing data analytics engine and to generate its own contextual entertainment content including videos, reviews and discovery.

Lately, BookMyShow has started is operations in Bangladesh, Indonesia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
