American Firms Encouraged to Make Use of Modi’s Digital India Programme

Seems like India’s plans to connect 60,000 of its villages to the internet through our PM’s Digital India program is grabbing many an eyeball. Sources say that this programme was the major focus during a roundtable conference between Indian and American companies.

Modi’s Startup India campaign also received attention during a roundtable with Indian Minister for Communication & IT Ravi Shankar Prasad, which was conducted by the US-India Business Council (USIBC) at Cambridge, on Friday. USIBC is made up of top US and Indian companies  who form the creamy layer of the  US-India commercial ties.

The attendees of the roundtable included USIBC President MukeshAghi and senior executives from top Indian and American firms like Google, Facebook, UST Global, iTech, MasterCard et cetera.

“Digital India provides an enormous investment opportunity for both global technology companies and startups from tech hubs like Boston and Silicon Valley,” Prasad said.“India is sitting on the cusp of a digital revolution,” he said. “Whether it is big metropolitan cities or small towns, a well-connected India has the potential to not only usher in economic and welfare opportunities for its citizens, but also the global economic order.”

Prasad encouraged American companies to take advantage of the Digital India programme, pointing out the transparency and smooth flow of the Indian businesses. He also spoke about the measures which have already been taken to implement this initiative efficiently. He stressed on how the government could make it easier to obtain clearances to install mobile phone towers and how the infrastructure can be further expanded to back up this program.
