Recently, Chief Technology Officer Wang Jian of renowned Chinese ecommerce website, Alibaba unveils its first smart car, Roewe RX5 in Hangzhou, where Alibaba is headquartered. Jointly developed with China’s biggest automaker SAIC Motor Corp, the smart car will launch in August this year. However, it is available for pre-order in China. As per reports, the base price of the car is $22,230. Alibaba aims to connect all its cars to the IoT ecosystem that offers internet, giving its users a better experience on the go.
Features of the Next-Gen Car
Being internet-connected and equipped with the YunOS operating system, this SUV car can link up with smartphones. Moreover, the RX5 supports voice commands and navigation tools. It will let drivers to reserve and pay for parking spaces, gas station trips and coffee runs via Alibaba’s payment service, Alipay. Having three LED screens and 360 degree cameras, you can record drives and click selfies.
The internet-car features an ‘intelligent map’ that doesn’t require WiFi or GPS to track the vehicle’s location. It will save a unique ‘internet ID’ for each driver that enters the vehicle. With this, the people sitting in the car can easily choose music, air temperature and restaurants based on previous trips.
